The historic inaugural coinage series of independent Sierra Leone, introduced in 1964 to establish the nation’s first decimal currency system (Leone/Cents). All denominations—ranging from the bronze 1/2 cent to the cupro-nickel 20 cents—feature the forward-facing portrait of the country’s first Prime Minister, Sir Milton Margai, on the obverse and the national coat of arms or localized agricultural themes on the reverse.
